The Champlain Local Health Integration Network’s (LHIN) mandate is to ensure health services are well-organized, appropriately funded, and meet the health needs of the 1.3 million residents who call this region home.

We work with and fund roughly 120 health service providers that offer about 240 health programs in hospitals, community support services, mental health and addiction services, community health centres, and long-term care homes. The Champlain LHIN also delivers home and community care services.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Director of Communications and Engagement at the Champlain Local Health Integration Network (LHIN), the Translator is a member of the Pan-LHIN Translation Service and translates and revises documents for a wide range of documents of varying complexity for both internal and external audiences. The Translator also supports the Translation Coordinator when required in ensuring translation services for the fourteen Local Health Integration Networks in Ontario and Health Shared Services Ontario (HSSO).

Primary Responsibilities:

• Provides translation services from English to French and French to English (occasionally) for the fourteen LHINs in Ontario and HSSO.
• Revises documents translated by outsourced vendors and LHIN colleagues.
• Participates in meetings of the Pan-LHIN Translation Service to discuss issues, strategies, and results.
• Collaborates with the Translation Coordinator to help identify priorities and manage workflow.
• Refers the client to translators on the provincial Vendor of Record list when translation requests are ineligible according to guidelines and procedures.
• Helps maintain and update the LHIN lexicon, and share with freelance translators and other regional translation services.
• Continuously monitors, communicates and evaluates workload to ensure timely delivery of translation requests.
• Assists with coordination of the Pan-LHIN Translation Service which may involve: intake of requests, negotiation of timelines, outsourcing documents to appropriate vendors, using memory software (Logiterm), and compiling reports.
• Participates in special projects and performs other duties as required.

Education and Experience:

• University degree in translation, accreditation from the Association of Translators and Interpreters of Ontario (ATIO), or the Ordre des traducteurs, terminologues et interprètes agréés du Québec or other provincial equivalent
• Related experience in providing translation and proofreading services will be considered an asset.

Knowledge:

• Knowledge of health related terminology will be considered an asset
• Understanding of how to follow a prescribed budget
• Understanding of LHIN partners and contracted service providers in the community

Skills and Abilities:

• Fluency in both French and English (advanced proficiency in oral and written) is mandatory
• Interpersonal and relationship building skills with both internal clients and external agencies

• Self-motivated, able to work independently and collaborate within a team
• Ability to set priorities, work to set and meet tight deadlines and manage competing demands

• Advanced computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite (particularly Word and Excel)
• Experience using a memory software is required, experience using Logiterm translation tool is an asset

Pay Rate: Wages are in accordance with the collective agreement between Champlain LHIN and OPSEU $32.01/hr
Shift: Monday to Friday, 8:30am - 4:30pm

Location: This position is for the Pan-LHIN Translation Service, which is operated by the Champlain LHIN but serves all 14 LHINs and HSSO. The position may be located at any LHIN office in Ontario.
